SOLAR ECLIPSE

Today we got to see a solar eclipse. Lois had brought in some special glasses so we could look at the sun.
It was amazing and we also noticed the sky looked a bit pink and it got colder when the moon was in front of the sun. The shadows on the ground had little 'eclipses' on them.
AMAZING!

DESCRIPTIVE WRITING

We are learning to write a description:

When I walk into my bedroom I see clouds when I look out the window. When I’m tired I sleep in my warm bed with my nightlight on. There are no monsters in my bedroom, it makes me very happy. I get mad and shut the door to be by myself. I like to play pretend games with Kelly.

By André

In Room 14 I can see the work that the children and teachers in my class have done. I can feel the fuzzy carpet spreading across my hand. I can also feel the fresh air from outside coming towards the classroom. Sometimes the class smells like a land of smelly socks. I can hear the birds chatting and chirping to each other. I also hear the wind whispering. That really makes me cheerful. I love my colourful classroom.

THANK YOU IAN AND PETER!

Our Social Skill focus has been ‘ Looking after the Environment’. We thought about the people who really help look after the Nelson Central School Environment and decided we needed to thank them.
Peter and Ian are our school caretakers and they do an amazing job. We wrote them letters to say ‘Thank-you’.
Astrid and Ayla gave them their letters at assembly.
Dear Peter and Ian,
Thank you for taking care of the school and for getting the balls off the roof. Thank you for taking care of the garden and building stuff for us. You do a great job.

WIND, WIND, WIND

When I stepped out of the warm class it felt like I had been in a whirl of flames. Icy cold waves crushed against my face. Now I was in a world of cold rain and ice, as if I was covered in snow. I wished I could push myself back into the class but the gale was too strong. I could only see huge clouds like glaciers. I knew that soon I would be covered in rain from head to toe.

BROOK SANCTUARY

The Brook Sanctuary:

Last week we went to the Brook Sanctuary. I went with Tavie and Skye. Skye’s little sister Poppy fiddled with my hat! Someone called Mel took us into the freezing water. I caught heaps of stuff with a net. Rick taught us a lot about traps. Finally what I did after that was fishing. I smelled leaves that smelled like dropping honey. It was so fun. I loved it!

POHUTUKAWA SWIMMING CARNIVAL

SHIVERY FUN

On Thursday Room 14 had a swimming carnival at the school pool. I had butterflies in my tummy. I took a deep breath and jumped in. Brrrr, it was cold! Everyone was looking at me. I felt so nervous.

After I had done a starfish I got out.  Next up was the boys’ piggyback race, then the girls’ piggyback race. My buddy was Ayla. After I had finished my mum and dad were so impressed. I felt good. I felt good for getting in and having a go.

On Wednesday room 14 went to the Museum. My favourite part was looking at the food with a magnifying glass. I liked it because we got to sit on spongy grass and it was really, really interesting. I loved our trip.

Something I learnt at the museum was that mussels can live on ropes!

Something I learnt at the museum is that sea slugs can kill dogs.
